Great War Flying Museum plans memorial flight honouring LCOL Andrew McKeever, VC

The Great War Flying Museum will hold a fly-over on 22 June 2024 to honour the memory of the great Canadian hero, Lt. Col.Andrew McKeever. (See The Maple Leaf Vol. 38 Fall 2020)  Here in Southern Ontario, we have a rich history that needs to be continually learned, taught and celebrated. Andrew McKeever was a top-ranking ace of the Great War who flew a two-seat Bristol F2B for most of his operational career. We will feature our Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter which was itself, such an aircraft in the mid-war period. In formation, we will over-fly the gravesite of McKeever, Listowel’s greatest hero.

The Museum, operated by the Ontario Aviation Historical Society, is a not-for-profit volunteer member organization. It was founded in 1970 by a group of Brampton Flying Club members as a ‘living’ museum, bringing to life the sights and sounds of Great War aviation. Our members include pilots, mechanics and historical researchers, all who absolutely loved aircraft and in particular, WW1 aircraft.

Our aim is to keep alive, by preservation and education, the memory of those daring young aircrew and people in support who served Canada so valiantly.

The fly-over commemoration will take place on 22 June 2024 with a rain date of 23 June.

Everyone who sees our fly-over is welcome to visit us at Brampton Airport throughout our flying season.
